Matapi Flats Renewal
Renewed dignity.
Matapi Flats is a residential renovation project that brought structural repair, colour and renewed pride to a long-standing housing block. It is one of the clearest examples of a belief that runs through all of ZIMCN’s community work: the infrastructure a business touches is part of what it contributes, not a separate line item.
The renovation combined practical repair work — addressing structural wear the building had carried for years — with a deliberate choice to make the result visually uplifting, not just functional. The colour scheme was chosen to give residents somewhere they could feel genuine pride in, not just a repaired building.
Projects like this one don’t generate a financial return in the way a mine or a fuel station does. They matter for a different reason: they are proof that the businesses behind them are accountable to the places they operate in.
How the project came together
Understanding what was needed
A site assessment identified the structural issues the building had accumulated over years of wear, ahead of any renovation work starting.
Repair, then colour
Structural repairs came first, followed by a deliberate colour scheme designed to bring warmth and visible pride back to the block.
A place residents are proud of
The finished building stands as a visible, daily reminder that the people living there were worth investing in.
